根据提交给伊利诺伊州卫生设施和医疗服务审查委员会（Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board）的项目申请文件显示，这座新设施将坐落于西北大学医学中心奥兰帕克院区内。该院区目前已设有西北大学的圣乔治癌症研究所（St. George Cancer Institute）。
西北大学在申请文件中指出，兴建新设施的目的是为了满足南郊地区当前及未来对癌症治疗服务的需求。
